Roof replacement in Lafayette and Baton Rouge
A roof replacement is the largest single check most Lafayette and Baton Rouge homeowners write on their house between buying it and selling it. What moves a real bid inside that bracket: roof size and pitch, the number of stories, how many old layers come off, how much decking needs replacement once the tear-off exposes it, and the covering you choose. One tell separates a comparable bid from a vague one: itemization. A useful bid breaks out tear-off, a per-sheet allowance for decking replacement, underlayment, the covering by product name, flashing and edge metal, disposal, and the permit. The decking allowance matters most, because nobody knows how much bad decking a roof hides until the shingles come off, and an allowance priced per sheet keeps that surprise from becoming a dispute in the middle of the job.
When replacement beats repair
Repair is the right call more often than roofers admit and less often than homeowners hope. The honest split looks like this:
- Repair usually wins when the damage is localized and the roof is young: a wind-lifted section after one storm, a single flashing or penetration leak, a few missing shingles on an otherwise sound slope.
- Replacement usually wins when the wear is systemic: granule loss and curling across whole slopes rather than spots, leaks that recur in new places after each repair, decking that feels soft underfoot, or a roof at the age where repairs stop changing how anyone, buyer or insurer, values it.

If the roof is due anyway: the FORTIFIED question
Replacement is the one moment the FORTIFIED decision is cheap to make, because the expensive part of the upgrade, an open deck and a crew already on the roof, is a cost you are paying regardless.
